When one thinks of musical revolutions in the second half of the nineteenth century, it is Wagner and the so-called Artwork of the Future that immediately springs to mind. But, as Schoenberg brilliantly articulated in his famous essay ‘Brahms the Progressive’, another more subtle revolution was enacted in the musical language of this year’s O/Modernt featured composer, Johannes Brahms. Presenting a concert of contrasting revolutions, we invite you to come and decide for yourself: who do think who was the more progressive?
