Gabriel Cornet grew up in Brittany, France, where he studied with Flore Kiss, Nadine Bodiguel and Paul Daniel. He was later accepted to the conservatory in Toulouse where he was taught by Gilles Colliard, but he soon moved on to Paris where he studied with José Alvarez. During his years of study, he also took master classes with Olivier Charlier, Annick Roussin, Marc Coppey, Blagoja Dimcevski, Mauricio Fuks. In 2002 he won the National Young Musicians Showcase Competition in France.
For four years, Gabriel was a member of the first violin section of the Toulouse Chamber Orchestra. The orchestra’s repertoire spanned a broad spectrum, from early Baroque performed on period instruments to contemporary music. During those years, he participated in tours in Europe, Japan and South America. He was subsequently hired as section leader of the second violins in the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra in Norway.
He's now a member of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.
He’s been a guest 2nd violin leader in Aalborg Symphony, the Royal Stockholm Opera, Malmö Symphony, Uppsala KammarOrkester as well as Oslo Philharmonic. He also collaborated with Gothenburg Symphony and The Swedish Radio.
Gabriel is also a dedicated chamber musician and frequently plays with a string quartet and a piano trio, and regularly participates in the Stockholm Konserthuset chamber music series with his colleagues.
Additionally, he is deeply dedicated to period music and works with ensembles such as Le Cercle de l'Harmonie, Le Concert de la Loge, Trondheim Barokk and Orfeus Barrock Stockholm.
