Daniel Eklund (1987) grew up in Lund and began playing the viola at the age of five. In 2015, he graduated from the soloist class at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, where he studied with Lars Anders Tomter and Tim Frederiksen.
Daniel is a dedicated chamber musician and a member of the Nordic String Quartet, an ensemble that has performed at festivals across Europe, Asia, and South America. The quartet’s debut recording featuring music by Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen was awarded the Danish Radio P2 Prize for “Album of the Year in New Classical Music.” They have also released the complete string quartets of Nancy Dalberg and Peter Heise.
Since 2013, Daniel was the principal violist of the chamber orchestra Musica Vitae and appeared several times as a soloist with the orchestra. He has also performed as a soloist alongside musicians such as Benjamin Schmid, Malin Broman and Hugo Ticciati. For the past three years, he has served as section leader at Malmö Opera.
