Astrid Hillerud (2000) is a Swedish cellist based in Finland. In the spring and summer of 2026 she is serving as solo cello in Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra and will in the autumn start the position of solo cello in Sinfonia Lahti. Born and raised in a musical family in Stockholm, music has always been the prominent part of her life. She began her musical studies at Lilla Akademien in Stockholm with Elisabeth Lysell Bjermkvist and continued later with prof. Ola Karlsson. As a passionate chamber-musician she has studied cello and chamber music at Edsberg’s Musikinstitut for cellist Jakob Koranyi and continued later with Torleif Thedéen the Norwegian Academy of Music. She is completing her studies at the Sibelius Academy in autumn of 2026. For her playing, Astrid has been awarded many scholarships, including several from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. She is currently playing a cello from 1772 made by Swedish instrument maker Johan Öberg.
